Where friends become family

Many adults with special needs struggle finding a place to make friends and be themselves. Spud State Cares not only provides the space with our community center, we also host fun events so everyone can get to know one another. We also assist special needs individuals with financial difficulties.

We invite participants of all ages to attend a free formal dance with a DJ, photo booth, lunch and party favors. It is a great time of dancing and laughter!

Spring Prom

A special event including gifts and a festive meal for our participants and their families so no one is alone on Christmas.

Imaginations come to life every Halloween as our participants, staff, their friends, and families come together to celebrate!

Trunk or Treat

Annual Summer & Winter Camp

We plan a trip to Valley County for Winter Camp and Summer Camp! We retreat to the mountains for a few days of relaxation and fun.

Elva Gannon

President of the Board

Elva Gannon brings 22 years of dedicated service to adults and children with developmental disabilities, advocating tirelessly for an improved quality of life. Since 2021, she has volunteered with Spud State Cares, assuming the role of President in 2023. Elva played a vital role in shaping the organization's Mission and Vision, and her leadership has been instrumental in securing increased funding from donors and expanding outreach within the community.

Lisa Turnbull

Treasurer

Lisa Turnbull serves as the bookkeeper at Allegiant Supported Living, leveraging 18 years of experience in the realm of developmental disabilities. Throughout her career, she has held positions such as program supervisor and director, engaging directly with individuals to enrich their lives. While her primary responsibility now lies in bookkeeping, Lisa remains dedicated to interacting with our individuals, which she finds immensely rewarding. Her commitment to enhancing the lives of others and fostering opportunities for them to thrive underscores her passion for making a positive impact.

Cassandra Ward

Community Center Assistant

Cassandra brings her experience as a mother of four and her decades of caregiving to her work each day. She has a deep passion for supporting individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, helping them build independence, form meaningful friendships, and discover new skills. Cassandra loves leading activities, teaching new games, and encouraging those she works with to give back to their community through volunteering. Her goal is to empower others to live fulfilling, connected, and joyful lives.

April Gannon

Fundraising Coordinator

April brings over 15 years of extensive fundraising experience and a strong background in working with individuals with disabilities. She maintains a full-time position at another nonprofit but dedicates several hours each week to support the Spud State Cares fundraising initiatives for our major events throughout the year. April has played a key role in increasing funding from donors and expanding our outreach within the community.
